Position Type: Administration/Director of Advancement Date Posted: 10/17/2024 Location: Bishop McDevitt High School EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF ADVANCEMENT/DEVELOPMENT (Chief Financial Officer) Bishop McDevitt High School City & State: Harrisburg, PA Full-Time Salary Commensurate with Experience Overview: As a key member of the Strategic Leadership Team of Bishop McDevitt High School, the Executive Director is a senior leadership position reporting to the Head of Schools and assumes a strategic role in the fiscal management of the school, providing sound and timely financial recommendations to the principal. The Executive Director works closely with the Finance Committee and the Advancement Committee of the Board of Directors, providing a visionary approach to overall fiscal responsibility and leadership. Within the context of the school's mission statement and policies of the Board of Trustees, the Executive Director administers, strategizes and coordinates the school's advancement program and finance office, which raises restricted and unrestricted gifts to maintain and enhance the current and future stability of the school. They must provide leadership in all fund development efforts; initiate innovative approaches to building the school's donor constituency; and help to create an environment for philanthropy to flourish. The Executive Director must exhibit broad, creative, and strategic thinking. The Executive Director of Advancement must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with an exceptional ability to build relationships. Responsibilities of the Executive Director include oversight and direction of all fundraising efforts, annual appeals, capital campaigns, endowment campaigns, scholarships, grant writing, planned giving efforts, business development, sponsorships, foundations, and in-kind donations. Additionally, the Executive Director works closely with the head of schools for oversight, development, and management of the annual budget, annual audit, oversight of accounting practices, tax-related reporting, long-range forecasting, and fiscal inflow and outflow of financial resources of the school. The qualified candidate must be forward-thinking, able to seamlessly adapt to an evolving environment, meld their talents with the Bishop McDevitt culture, and thrive in a complex and deadline-orientated non-profit. The position of the Executive Director requires the capacity to identify and institute new funding sources and fiscal accounting of school financial resources. Special consideration will be given to applicants who understand the variances of school finances, embracing the philosophy of Mission within a Catholic organization. Requirements: Minimum Knowledge of nonprofit advancement and fundraising initiatives. Possess at least a Bachelor's Degree in communications, business administration/ finance/ management, or accounting. 5-8 years of experience in fundraising and stakeholder relations. Previous experience managing a team. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and various database management software. Some travel required. Preferred Master's Degree in Non-Profit Leadership, Finance, or Accounting. Experience with public school, private school, and/or nonprofit organizations. Experience in secondary education. Understanding of the philosophy and Mission within a Catholic organization. Knowledge, Skills and Ability Extensive knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, fundraising, and resource allocation Management, organizational, and problem-solving skills Knowledge of Non-Profit Advancement/Development Functions Ability to maintain and uphold confidentiality Scope of Work/Responsibilities Oversee Advancement, Development, and Business Functions Oversee Office of Advancement and Development regarding all fundraising efforts, which include: annual appeals, capital campaigns, endowment campaigns, grant writing, planned giving efforts, business development, sponsorships, foundations, and in-kind donations. Identify, cultivate, and solicit major gift prospects of $10,000 and maintain and manage a major gift portfolio of prospects. Develop a strategic plan for financial income of the advancement and development department and oversee the implementation of all advancement activities. Develop a strategic marketing plan that includes public relations, marketing strategies, and collateral materials. Direct and support the work of the Advancement team to ensure the annual budgeted goals are met. Coordinate the school and constituency promotion of the EITC program. Administer, manage, and monitor donor database. Lead, supervise, and annually evaluate the performance of the staff within the financial management, advancement, and business offices. In collaboration with the Principal, School Board Finance Committee, and Board of Directors, assist in the development of an overall strategic financial plan for the school, including short- and long-term plans. Oversee the collection of all outstanding pledges and tuition revenue due to the organization. Recruit and Supervise Volunteers for events and activities. Assist in the planning, development, and administration of the school's budget. Submit to the Board of Directors the annual budget and the audited annual financial report. Prepare multi-year projections of revenues and expenditures. Direct and implement an effective system of internal financial controls. Identify and implement new revenue streams. Other duties as assigned. Relationships Confer regularly with the School Board Executive Council regarding school operations. Exercise good judgment and thoughtfulness in working with business professionals, the community, school personnel, and school families. Maintain a pleasant and cooperative relationship with members of the staff, faculty, families, and students. Must be courteous and able to deal effectively with people. Must be able to work as a member of a team. Must be cooperative, congenial, and service-oriented. Have the ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions.
